For the first time in three years the day of the Pikes Peak Ascent had beautiful weather.

Ben usually runs it, but this time we were going to
Masonville instead. Mom, Asher, Julia, Victoria,
and I went to the start anyway to see our three
cousins Jeremy, Tim, and Daniel off.

The air was excited and tense. Thousands of runners stretched in the street by Memorial Park in Manitou Springs. Just before the race started we heard a dramatic rendition of America the Beautiful which was written on Pikes Peak. Then, "BANG!" The starting gun sounded, marking both the start of the race and the start of our fun weekend.

After a two and a half hour drive we all found ourselves at the Masonville Gospel Music Festival. It was about noon and we weren't scheduled to play until five so we had plenty of time on our hands.
Happy. Listening to music. General good time being had by all.

Getting sleepy. . .

Bored. Definitely bored.

Time to do something about the problem. We cranked up the music and headed to town in search of cellphone service and a health food store.

Success! Morale was boosted, and a general good time was once again had by all.

It started dumping rain just as we were beginning to warm up for our set. Everyone ran for cover under canopies. Cross Examined finished their set acoustically inside the church. They sounded great in spite of the inconvenience. We thought it would happen to us, but the sun came out just in the nick of time, and we were able to play outside as originally planned.

The Hartmans finished out the night. They were awesome as always of course.
We spent the night at their house in Loveland, and the next day hanging out with them.
Jesse kept us laughing with
his funny antics.

We had a blast at the Hartmans house, horse back riding,
gyro riding,

and playing volleyball.

Later we hiked up to Horsetooth falls. They were almost dry, more a leak than a fall, but it was still beautiful. After a delicious picnic lunch we cooled off in the reservoir.

We had such a fun time. Thanks very much to the Hartman family for their hospitality and great fellowship.
